The Gulflander (20_FNQ13)
The Gulflander rattles and bumps it way through semi-arid tropical landscapes between Normanton and Croydon in the Queensland Gulf Country. Also known as the ‘Tin Hare’, this legendary rail motor is one of the last great characters of the rail world. Affectionately said to go from ‘nowhere to nowhere’, the line of 94 miles (154 km) was built to join the gold mining town of Croydon to its port of Normanton. It was never connected to the state rail network and remains the only line in Queensland still measured in miles.
